Dr. Joseph Y. K. Wong
Dr. Joseph Y. K. Wong is a Toronto-based physician and the founder of the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, one of North America’s leading non-profits providing culturally appropriate care for seniors.
Witnessing the isolation experienced by Chinese elders in mainstream care homes, Dr. Wong launched a campaign in 1987 to build a facility that respected cultural and linguistic needs. The first Yee Hong Centre opened in 1994 and has since expanded to four locations across the Greater Toronto Area, serving over 15,000 seniors annually through long-term care, community support, and training programs.
Beyond healthcare, Dr. Wong is a lifelong advocate for equity and inclusion. He founded the Chinese Canadian National Council, chaired the United Way of Greater Toronto, and launched ALPHA Education to raise awareness of Asian WWII history. His contributions have earned him the Order of Canada and recognition as a visionary leader in both healthcare and social justice.
